CONTACT is an interactive filing system that keeps
track of your important business and casual contacts.
CONTACT locates your important contacts quickly. By
first name, key (last name + first name), or by
company name. CONTACT allows you to enter the
first few characters that make the contact unique
when searching for an important contact, thus saving
many keystrokes.
CONTACT is handy for salesmen, managers, retailers, or
anyone with a need to keep track of important contacts.
CONTACT allows you to interface with ASCII text files
and has a mail/merge feature. You can customize forms
using an ASCII text editor such as Wordstar or
Sidekick. You can create rolodex cards, mailing
labels, personalized form letters, custom reports in
formats of your choosing!
Each contact can be in up to 12 different categories.
Three date fields are attached to each contact,
first contact date, last contact date and next
contact date. You are able to select contacts by
category for a range of dates and print these out.
Seperate file systems are available. You can keep
vendor contacts in one file system and client
contacts in another. The possibilities are solely
up to you and limited only by disk space.
A contextual help system is available throughout
CONTACT to aid you in using the system. Press the
F1 key (FUNCTION 1 KEY) and CONTACT will place a
help window upon the screen similar to the one you
are viewing now. It will give you brief and informative
messages about the screen currently being viewed.
Contact has an AUTODIAL feature that will work with
Hayes compatible modems. While in the contact menu
press F3 to dial the home phone number and press
F4 to dial the work phone number. CONTACT will start
up the dial sequence and you can simply pick up the
phone when someone answers the line.
CONTACT will also keep a log of the calls you have
initiated. Simply set up an environment variable
called "PLOG" before starting CONTACT and each call
will be recorded in a file. CONTACT will record the
current file system, current date and time, phone
number and name of the person you are calling.
You can insert custom escape sequences into your forms.
By inserting "*p0" into your form as a signal, CONTACT
will send the appropriate escape sequence to your
printer. You will need your printer specification
manual to set this up correctly. The ESC key can be
used to exit menus and stop reports at any time.
This indicates to CONTACT that you are finished looking
at the display on the screen. This key is used
GLOBALLY through the system as an escape hatch. It is
ALWAYS available.
The LEFT ARROW Key will move left one field while you
are updating a record.
The RIGHT ARROW Key will move left one field while
you are updating a record.
The UP ARROW Key is used to move up one field if you
are in an update mode or the menu options are showing.
If you are in the contact menu it will move to the
prior record.
The DOWN ARROW Key is used to move down one field
if you are in an update mode or the menu options are
showing. If you are in the contact menu it will
move to the next record.
The F2 Key (function 2) is used to make a copy of
the screen. Each time F2 is pressed, the current
screen is appended to the file "screen.sav" in the
current directory. This has the advantage over
pressing SHIFT PRTSCRN, in that screens are paginated
correctly.
The F10 Key (function 10) is an information screen
which displays where you can contact the author
(me) about enhancements or updates.

You can edit the memo fields using CONTACTS built-in
editor. The editor is limited to 4 lines of 50
characters per line. Enough room for a practical
amount of information - if it is necessary to keep
a large amount of information per contact, paper
files would be appropriate.
To edit the DATE field, press HOME to position the
